Why did Paul say this? Romans 15: 8: “For I tell you that Christ has become a servant of the Jews on behalf of God’s truth, so that the promises made to the patriarchs might be confirmed 9 and, moreover, that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy.” Have any of you ever heard a sermon on this verse? God just yammering to hear himself talk, through Paul?
The issue is the mystery of Christ. Who, Why, What, Where, When and Whom? Pardon me for my skepticism. While earning an engineering degree, a professor at KU (Rock Chalk!) put a hardwood slug into a tensile and compression testing machine, preparing to test the hardwood (6 inches long and 3 inches by 3 inches square) in compression for a test to determine the PSI (pounds per square inch) required to cause failure of the column, in compression [A lot of force … Force equals mass times acceleration, the energy has to go somewhere]. I understood the danger.
Thirty students in the summer Statics and Dynamics combined course, there in the room. I spoke up as Professor Dangerous got ready to flip the switch. I, very confidently said, “Professor, don’t we need some shielding around this specimen? He paused and incompetently replied, “It will be alright.” Wanna Bet? Pop, Crack, Extreme Acceleration. Right by my face it flew. I felt it, pass by, but could not see it. (F=M x A).
I humorously said, without missing a beat, “Wow, I almost got an A in this class huh.” Professor Gadget was not amused. He had proven himself incompetent before thirty students.
Incompetence, and his ego, later caused the professor to tell me to wait a semester to take another course he was teaching, the next semester, so I could take it from another professor. Its hard being a competent genius.
I further assume, based on my experience as an engineer in the aircraft industry at the BIG FAT SLOTH, Boeing, that the rest of you arrayed in college degrees are also incompetent. I’m sorry but you have to prove your competence to me.
Later, as result of similar experience with the engineers at Boeing and their demonstrated incompetence, not awarding me my MRB Certification in 3 1/2 years (average incompetent get theirs in a year) due to their inability to send me to another professor. Embarrassed them. Didn’t mean too.
I ended up after my first experience with an incompetent lawyer explaining the law to my federally appointed lawyer, the federal court and the federal prosecutor myself, successfully. Winning in their rigged courts twice!
I told an entire denomination, of mostly incompetent preachers and professors “the Lord will deliver me.” Because the Lord told me, “I WILL DELIVER YOU.” My faith was in the Lord. (See: John 16: 12-14 … all true, as demonstrated by God, to those very incompetent preachers and professors, with his power, in my life) Then I recorded my incompetent lawyer telling me to F-OFF, calling me an A-Hole and F-you in a three-way phone call.
I swore the transcript as an affidavit and sent nine copies to the justices in Washington DC. It’s fun sometimes to be a competent genius. It is true, I predicted to a thousand people and then won in federal court twice in 2003, representing myself there without any lawyer. Just like Jesus promised in Luke 12: 11. Just like I told the thousand of them. It was good clean fun.
Putting the scriptures in the compression testing machine is more serious that the hardwood column. Millions are off track, just as the apostles predicted.
Today I had occasion to listen to the second-hand drivel from some seminary or the other. Jeybesus (because Jesus never said what is claimed) said, “The law applies to Christians.” Of course, he did not say that, he did say this in Matthew 5, often pulled out of the rest of the paragraph and poor reading comprehension issues revealed: Mt. 5: 17, 18: “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.”
Of course the incompetent among seminaries, their professors and their very weak productions (your pastors) produce the incompetent reply, SEE JESUS SAYS THE LAW STILL STANDS. Hilarious! This in failure to understand there is a MYSTERY OF CHRIST. Competent and Confident, as usual: “God did not send Jesus to die after re-preaching Moses, enforcing the law, with a dead guy nailed to it.” The next sentence.
Matthew 5: 19: Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.”
Back to Who, What, Where, Why, When and Whom? The issues of competence here. Jesus said it, according to Matthew (known as Levi, per Polycarp, John’s direct disciple, its in my books) [we’ll come back to “what” momentarily] the why was to announce a new covenant prophesied beforehand most clearly by Jeremiah (Jer. 31: 31-34 … in my books) the WHEN, WHERE (in Israel land of Moses’ Constitution, from Joshua to 70 A.D.) to whom, Jews under that law Jesus was also under, him actually fulfilling it as the Lamb who takes away the sin of the world as John the Baptist testified. The atonement sacrifice. Romans 4 would be good for you to read. Paul, Law versus the promise, the law did not set aside the promise.
The WHAT of Jesus’ words to those Jews under Mosaic law, in Israel, land of Moses’ covenant of law , during the time of the covenant of the law which only the rational can understand must have ended in 70 A.D. when the nation, necessary for such a covenant, ceased to exist, the temple necessary for such a covenant, to be performed, destroyed (exactly as Jesus prophesied) and the Levite Priests necessary to perform it, scattered and killed.
THE WHAT JESUS(?): He came to fulfill the law he says. ” … Until heaven and earth pass away” is a specified date, when all the jots and tittles disappear (Whom? Those who rejected him throughout entire history). The other specified date Jesus names: “until everything is accomplished” (already happened. … John 19: 30: “tetelestai” “It is finished.” as translated). What does he say of those who set the commandments aside? Not obeying them or teaching them? “Least IN the kingdom of heaven.” In Jesus, as Paul said “no one will be justified by the law.”
The ultimate misreading of scripture is to read the constitution of Israel (Mosaic Law) outside the boundaries of Israel and outside that specified time it stood. Jesus, as we hear Paul say is a ” … minister to the Jews. … .” Matthew 10 confirms this in Jesus’ words themselves: Mt. 10: “Do not go among the Gentiles or enter any town of the Samaritans. 6 Go rather to the lost sheep of Israel. 7 As you go, proclaim this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven has come near.’” That phrase is not used about the Gentile world. Jesus was the king of Israel bringing the Jews a kingdom, the kingdom of God, which they rejected.
In Matthew 15 Jesus confirms the observation I make explaining the covenant of Christ to preachers and professors as I explained the law and indictments to federal judges: “Leaving that place, Jesus withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon. 22 A Canaanite woman from that vicinity came to him, crying out, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is demon-possessed and suffering terribly.”
23 Jesus did not answer a word. So his disciples came to him and urged him, “Send her away, for she keeps crying out after us.”
24 He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel.”
So, per Jesus himself, you cannot read his teaching outside Israel nor as teaching to Gentiles. He was not sent to Gentiles. Acts 9: 15:
“But the Lord said to Ananias, “Go! This man is my chosen instrument to proclaim my name to the Gentiles and their kings and to the people of Israel. 16 I will show him how much he must suffer for my name.”
17 Then Ananias went to the house and entered it. Placing his hands on Saul, he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord—Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here—has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit.” 18 Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he could see again. He got up and was baptized, 19 and after taking some food, he regained his strength.”
Avery important point, Israel is not to be confused with Judah. In Jeremiah prophesying the new covenant Jeremiah says:
“The days are coming,” declares the Lord,
“when I will make a new covenant
with the people of Israel
and with the people of Judah.
32 It will not be like the covenant
I made with their ancestors
when I took them by the hand
to lead them out of Egypt,
because they broke my covenant,
though I was a husband to them,]”
declares the Lord.
33 “This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel
after that time,” declares the Lord.
“I will put my law in their minds
and write it on their hearts.
I will be their God,
and they will be my people.
34 No longer will they teach their neighbor,
or say to one another, ‘Know the Lord,’
because they will all know me,
from the least of them to the greatest,”
declares the Lord.
“For I will forgive their wickedness
and will remember their sins no more.”
Don’t eat any sour grapes. Jeremiah 31: 30. Don’t put any old wine into the new wine skins.
