Calvin vs. Wesley, An Infantile Argument

The elemental problem is that both Calvin and Wesley are wrong.  The Weslyan thinks the narrow gate has to do with works.  The Calvinist believes God has chosen him and that settles it.  I have read the scriptures deeply for 39 years while attending a Kansas City Church of the Nazarene.

They have, Nazarenes, for my thought, fundamentally steered off course.  Using about 5 verses, as I have witnessed, the Weslyan from the foundation of Philippians 2: 12, the foundation in error.  That, “working out” cannot have to do with works for salvation, as read in almost the entire rest of the Bible, as the end of the verse itself should tell those who grossly misinterpret it.  Read:  Phil. 2: 12: “… God who wills and acts within you to bring about his good purpose.”

Add Ephesians 2: 8-10:  “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

So, rhetorically, is the Lord able to bring about his good purpose from wicked sinners saved by grace through faith?  And on the issue of sanctification is it a DOCtrine featuring Moses and Rule Books, or is it the answer to Jesus’ prayer in John 17?  Does God the Father answer the prayers of the Only Begotten Son?  Or did he wait until the Eighteenth Century to correct 1300 years of the apostles’ error?

No I am not accusing them of error.  Being self-educated in theology, actually I’ve read the books of the Bible ignoring the commentaries and thank God, no seminary, ending instead with a (BSME) and utterly uninterested in Wesley or Calvin, not even choosing among apostles proving myself infant, were I to do so.  I Corinthians 3: 1-4!

Was Jesus lying to the Jews (he never preached or taught Gentiles.  Romans 15:8, Matthew 10 and Matthew 15) in John 5: 24; 6: 28, 29 and John 8: 15 The four gospels as they read are self-defined as inappropriate material for Gentile theology.  “Jesus was under law”, teaching “grace and truth” to those under the “law he fulfilled”, as the “atonement sacrifice” under which “no work may be performed”; rather a “denying of yourself” and “rest under the atonement.” (Leviticus 23)  Acts 9: 15 we find Jesus appointing Paul to bring the “LIGHT, carrying Jesus’ name before Gentiles, their rulers and Israel.” (Judah was not Israel) To find Israel you must read Hosea and Genesis 48.  Did you know there are 6 million Jews in Israel and 5, million Jews in the US. Israel (Ephraim) had no priests so they lost track of who they were as the winds of Hosea drove them west.  Judah and Benjamin returned and rebuilt the temple so they could reject Jesus, in the main, as the prophesy was foretold.  Paul was driven west also.  Where it has been said, “you are not my people and I will not have mercy on Ephraim, yet they shall be called sons of the living God.”  That, is the election that Calvin misinterprets.  The children of Abraham as reckoned through Isaac and Jacob, called Israel are elect on account of God’s promise to Abraham.  The promise Jesus came to Judah to confirm (Romans 15: 8).  “… so the Gentiles might praise God for his mercy.”   So are two prophets, the one saying, “I’m chosen but you’re not”; the other saying, “we’re sanctified but you’re not”, God’s examples of mercy?  Modern Christian transnational analysis:  “I’m OK but you’re not.”  Jesus, Mt. 11: 28-30:  “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Paul told you “all Israel will be saved.”  Jeremiah 31: 31-34 is the new covenant as prophesied through Jeremiah.  Read it.  It says God will put the law in the hearts and minds of those of the house of Israel, he will teach them who know him (all of them) from the least of them to the greatest.  He will remember their wicked acts no more and forgive them their wickedness.

James’ disciples ran afoul of Paul, claiming works (of the law) required and as Paul explains in Galatians he and Barnabas went up to Jerusalem to set the others straight.  Acts 15 contains the letter [NOTICE: “seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us not to burden you with anything …”] to Antioch. Peter there explaining works of the law do not bring salvation.  Therefore they have “placed their in Jesus”‘ work on the cross.

In Galatians Paul says “WHO HAS BEWITCHED YOU?” The bewitching (witchcraft) was the attempted “completion of salvation, by their own works”, what they began through “believing what they heard” receiving the Holy Spirit who worked miracles among them as result of their belief, instead in religion of the flesh producing works for salvation.

The Weslyan Problem has become the legalism problem, and therefore the miraculous works have diminished.  I strongly rebuke you!  Salvation is not by faith with works.  It is by Grace through faith and not from yourselves.  The Lord Jesus explained these things in John 16: 12-14.  He told you to “abide in him (the vine) and produce fruit.”  He gave you one new command, repeated by Paul.  “Love one another.”

Matthew 5: 19: “Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.  20  For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.”

Pharisees and teachers of the law defined acceptability to God by themselves, seeking a righteousness of their own and judging others according to themselves.  Jesus condemned them.   Sounds a lot like many in churches today.  Bad Yeast!  The exact yeast Jesus warned them about.

The narrow gate: Galatians 5: 4-6:  “You who are trying to be justified by the law have been alienated from Christ” …” you have fallen away from grace.”  [Falling away from GRACE is the GREAT FALLING AWAY. , confirmed in Galatians and Acts 15 … “seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us …”5 For through the Spirit we eagerly await by faith the righteousness for which we hope. 6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.”   John 15: 17.  Then he said tetelestai … “It is finished.”  Now Holiness?  I Corinthians 1: 1: 30:  “It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption.  31 Therefore, as it is written: “Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.”   I have heard some claim they possess holiness independently, and lord it over others, as Jesus told them not to do.  Chris Queen 1/6/2019  Please Hit Follow at the right for future updates.  Please leave me you valuable comments below., objective evidence

One night in 1979 …, I was   “dead in my sins and the worthless way of life handed down to me by my forefathers.  Ephesians 1: 1-7:  As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh[a] and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath. But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.”
