NO ONE IS RIGHTEOUS
Saul … Murderer then, at the moment he was awakened by Jesus, in the very act of murdering the believers in Jesus: Acts 9: 1-16:
“Meanwhile, Saul was still breathing out murderous threats against the Lord’s disciples. He went to the high priest 2 and asked him for letters to the synagogues in Damascus, so that if he found any there who belonged to the Way, whether men or women, he might take them as prisoners to Jerusalem. 3 As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. 4 He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?”
5 “Who are you, Lord?” Saul asked.
“I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,” he replied. 6 “Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”
7 The men traveling with Saul stood there speechless; they heard the sound but did not see anyone. 8 Saul got up from the ground, but when he opened his eyes he could see nothing. So they led him by the hand into Damascus. 9 For three days he was blind, and did not eat or drink anything.
10 In Damascus there was a disciple named Ananias. The Lord called to him in a vision, “Ananias!”
“Yes, Lord,” he answered.
11 The Lord told him, “Go to the house of Judas on Straight Street and ask for a man from Tarsus named Saul, for he is praying. 12 In a vision he has seen a man named Ananias come and place his hands on him to restore his sight.”
13 “Lord,” Ananias answered, “I have heard many reports about this man and all the harm he has done to you r holy people in Jerusalem. 14 And he has come here with authority from the chief priests to arrest all who call on your name.”
15 But the Lord said to Ananias, “Go! This man is my chosen instrument to proclaim my name to the Gentiles and their kings and to the people of Israel. 16 I will show him how much he must suffer for my name.” (NIV).
Ananias is given the commands of Christ here. Let’s realize, Not one commandment of Moses has Jesus uttered. Jesus, here, explains to Ananias whom it is he has sent to “reveal his name to Gentiles … .” The seminarilly mixed up have confused themselves trying to form mixed theologies from books that were not written for this purpose. Old wine and New Wine just like Jesus said.
Romans 3: 19, 20:
“Now we know that whatever the law says it says to those who are under the law so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God. Therefore no one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law, rather through the law we become conscious of sin.” (NIV)
The law has completed its work and usefulness at this point. Everyone is silenced. PERIOD! Only one remedy for sin. It is not obedience! John says this about those claiming to be obedient:
I John 1: 8-10:
“If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.”
Back to Paul, the Lord’s chosen messenger for Gentiles, at Romans 3: 21-24:
“But now a righteousness from God apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus to all who believe.” (NIV)
By what? _____________ In whom ____________ to whom (all who _____________). Key: Faith; Jesus; believe.
The Armenian error! Believing you can unearn what you did not earn to begin with.
Romans 3: 22-23:
“There is no difference FOR ALL HAVE SINNED AND FALL SHORT OF THE GLORY OF GOD.” (NIV)
(Sinning is sinning and short is short, no way to un-sin or extend yourself to reach God’s Glory). (Your sin separates you forever, from Holy God, and your arms are too short to reach his glory.) Only one remedy.
Romans 3: 24:
” … and we are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Jesus Christ.” (NIV)
Romans 3: 25:
“God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood. He did this to demonstrate his justice, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished — … “ (NIV)
Romans 3: 26:
” … he did it to demonstrate his justice at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.” (NIV)
Romans 3: 27:
“Where then is boasting?” [In Kansas City!!! Lord, I have heard it from among the allegedly mature] “It is excluded. On what principle? Of that of observing the law? No but on that of faith.” (NIV)
Romans 3: 28:
“For we maintain a man is justified by faith apart from observing the law.” (NIV)
Romans 3: 31:
“Do we then nullify the law by this faith? Not at all! Rather, we uphold the law.” (NIV)
How? BY BECOMING what the Lord, Jesus, the Christ, makes you to be through faith in him. Ephesians succinctly states it: 2: 8-10:
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” (NIV)
Jesus had prior stated the reality behind this truth revealed to Paul by the Holy Spirit in John 16: 8-14:
“Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. 8 When he comes, he will prove the world to be in the wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment:9 about sin, because people do not believe in me; 10 about righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer;11 and about judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned.
12 “I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. 13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. 14 He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you. 15 All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what he will make known to you.” (NIV)
Jesus gives commands of Christ there in John chapters 14-17. Abide in the vine, he says. Ask and your joy will be complete. John 16: 26, 27:
In that day you will ask in my name. I am not saying that I will ask the Father on your behalf. 27 No, the Father himself loves you because you have loved me and have believed that I came from God. (NIV)
