“The Four Hundred Pound Elephant In The Room” is an expression used to indicate a silent treatment of a fact everyone knows is there, yet no one wants to address.
As I indicated yesterday, I am refreshing my mind on fundamental Physics. The electromagnetic field of the earth demands attention, as such a 400 pound elephant.
Paul, puts the religious in their place by the Holy Spirit in Romans 3: 5-20:
“But if our unrighteousness brings out God’s righteousness more clearly,what shall we say? That God is unjust in bringing his wrath on us? (I am using a human argument.) 6 Certainly not! If that were so, how could God judge the world? 7 Someone might argue, “If my falsehood enhances God’s truthfulness and so increases his glory, why am I still condemned as a sinner?” 8 Why not say—as some slanderously claim that we say—“Let us do evil that good may result”? Their condemnation is just!” …
[I am proud to have been so accused also. CQ]
… “No One Is Righteous
9 What shall we conclude then? Do we have any advantage? Not at all! For we have already made the charge that Jews and Gentiles alike are all under the power of sin. 10 As it is written:
“There is no one righteous, not even one;
11 there is no one who understands;
there is no one who seeks God.
12 All have turned away,
they have together become worthless;
there is no one who does good,
not even one.”
13 “Their throats are open graves;
their tongues practice deceit.”
“The poison of vipers is on their lips.”
14 “Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness.”
15 “Their feet are swift to shed blood;
16 ruin and misery mark their ways,
17 and the way of peace they do not know.”
18 “There is no fear of God before their eyes.”
19 Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God. 20 Therefore no one will be declared righteous in God’s sight by the works of the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of our sin.” (NIV)
So what else does Paul say to us in Romans. Romans is his dissertation as one who was formerly a strict Pharisee among the Pharisees who was taken away from it by Jesus suddenly while in the very acts of falsely judging believers, him enforcing the LAW (by God!) also in the very act of mass murder. Paul, as he says here, was SILENCED!
“What then shall we say that Abraham, our forefather according to the flesh, discovered in this matter? 2 If, in fact, Abraham was justified by works, he had something to boast about—but not before God. 3 What does Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.”
4 Now to the one who works, wages are not credited as a gift but as an obligation. 5 However, to the one who does not work but trusts God who justifies the ungodly, their faith is credited as righteousness. 6 David says the same thing when he speaks of the blessedness of the one to whom God credits righteousness apart from works:
7 “Blessed are those
whose transgressions are forgiven,
whose sins are covered.
8 Blessed is the one
whose sin the Lord will never count against them.” (NIV)
That is what God is doing. Not counting peoples’ sins against them. That’s right, at this moment in all of creation God is busy not counting people’s sins against them in Christ.
Here’s the proof: II Corinthians 5: 17-20:
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! 18 All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: 19 that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. 20 We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. 21 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”
He has reconciled people through Jesus and Paul implores you to be reconciled to God. Now the religious think they are to spew forth God’s dissatisfaction with you to get you to repent. Then, they believe, in error, they have done their job. So where in all of scripture do they find this appointment they claim? ANSWER GOD? I could care less what they think. They are their own idols.
Jesus says Matthew 11: 28-30:
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
So what do we do about our sin? Jesus described the “born again” reality in John 16: 12-14:
“I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. 13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth.He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. 14 He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you. 15 All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what he will make known to you.” (NIV)
Back to my favorite gospel account which presents God the Son, as God, as it should be, listening to Jesus at John 5: 24:
“Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life.” (NIV)
If you believe right now, you are alive. So what to do now? Keep on believing in Jesus, not religious men and their faulty instructions, listen here to Jesus’ instruction at John 6: 27-29:
“Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on him God the Father has placed his seal of approval.” 28 Then they asked him, “What must we do to do the works God requires?” 29 Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.” (NIV)
Here is one of the commands of Christ, “[Thou shalt] Believe In The One He Has Sent”]!
Here is one of his great and precious promises made to you now and from everlasting to everlasting at John 8: 15:
“You judge by human standards; I pass judgment on no one.” (NIV)
So the Father has already spoken long before, this, through Jeremiah predicting this new covenant in Jesus at Jeremiah 31: 31-34. (Get a Bible and carefully read it) Jesus here speaks this as John writes to us, “I pass judgment on no one”. So what does Paul, the only authorized instrument (Acts 9: 15) say to us? Romans 9: 16:
“It does not, therefore, depend on human desire or effort, but on God’s mercy.” (NIV)
Confirming at Romans 9: 25, 26, God speaking to Gentiles:
“As he says in Hosea:
“I will call them ‘my people’ who are not my people;
and I will call her ‘my loved one’ who is not my loved one,”[i]
“In the very place where it was said to them,
‘You are not my people,’
there they will be called ‘children of the living God.’” (NIV)
Romans 10: 4:
“Christ is the culmination of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.” (NIV)
Romans 10: 4 in KJV:
“For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness for everyone that [‘believes’] believeth.” (KJV)
The religious law walker Wesleyans (fantasy) don’t want you to know that the law is set aside and not useful once it has done its work and brought death, as Paul said elsewhere, because they do not have faith in Jesus to accomplish his promise of God through his Spirit and they stand indicted before God. That is none of my business.
In Galatians Paul calls what they are up too WITCHCRAFT! Galatians 3: 1-10. Read it for yourself.
Calvin’s problem is trying to answer questions he has no business asking. The divisiveness resultant of these two and their offspring is infantile as Paul explains elsewhere. Lord how about dunce caps for them?
Galatians 4: 4, 5:
“You who are trying to be justified by the law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace. 5 For through the Spirit we eagerly await by faith the righteousness for which we hope.” (NIV)
Jesus in John 15 speaks of “abiding in the vine” (another commandment of Christ) and producing fruit, God’s will is fruit, he says. Paul in Galatians explains this further telling us there are but two kinds of fruit:
“The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.” (NIV)
So here we see the revelation for the two major dividers of the church. Walk after the Spirit by faith in Jesus and you cannot fall. Walk after the Law of Moses and you cannot stand because you are walking in the flesh. (Romans 7) Holiness? Paul again in I Corinthians 1: 27-30:
“But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. 28 God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, 29 so that no one may boast before him. 30 It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. 31 Therefore, as it is written: “Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.” (NIV)
